Curious problem-solver. Leader by practice. I build what's missing.

Twelve years in software delivery, six running a department I built from nothing. Open to operations, project and program management, quality, and process improvement roles where building the thing is the job, not the side effect.
About
Twelve years in, the thread is the same: I get curious about how something works, find where it's breaking down, and lead the fix. I started as a QA analyst with no coding background, taught myself automation, and six years ago walked into a twenty-year-old firm that had never had a quality function and built one.
That became the work I care about: leading a team split between Chicago and Latin America, staffing it against what each project could carry, and mentoring two analysts into senior roles, one of them on to lead. Much of it was client-facing - pinning down what people actually needed before anyone built it, which is where projects quietly go wrong. Somewhere in there I stopped thinking of it as quality work and started thinking of it as running a business. I'm consulting while I look for the next one, and riding a lot of bikes; happiest with a few things in motion.
Looking For
Growth
I want a company with a strong growth trajectory, because that's what makes room for a career to grow with it. I started a program from nothing and got promoted quickly, then hit a ceiling. I don't want another one, and I don't want to be defined as a quality expert and nothing else. The chance to use everything I can do matters most.
Culture
I value strong ties and real collaboration with colleagues. The best-performing teams I've been part of valued each other's work, understood that good ideas come from anywhere on the team, didn't pigeonhole people by role, and were hungry to produce quality work. I want an organization that builds that on purpose.
Purpose
I'm looking for organizations that know themselves: where they're going, how they'll get there, and how to navigate with some maturity when it gets complicated. Beyond that, I do my best work at companies with real purpose in their product or mission that see the larger ecosystem they're a part of.

Built the department from nothing: methodology, testing standards, and the training material a distributed team worked from. Packaged it into “Quality as a Service,” an offering the firm marketed and sold to clients. Promoted twice in two years.
Ran it as a business, staffing to project demand with cost as a core allocation factor, and drove it to rank among the firm's highest-margin teams without adding headcount.
Built and led a team across Chicago and Latin America, advancing one analyst to senior and another to senior and then lead, with two earning ISTQB certification, and mentored the team's first automation engineer.
Partnered with the PMO to forecast staffing across a shifting portfolio, managing intake and prioritization through Katana, and presented status, quality health, and trade-off decisions on high stakes projects including the highest revenue generating project in company history.
One of five department leads who helped lead the redesign of the company's end-to-end delivery framework and its process standards, restructuring sprint cadence so quality was not last in line. Ran a root-cause analysis tracing delivery friction to how requirements became work.
Served as a bridge between discovery, technical teams, and clients across a portfolio of digital projects, assisting in standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog grooming, and translating stakeholder needs into testable requirements and acceptance criteria.
Stayed hands on: selected Playwright on stack fit and cost, established the page object architecture, wrote and reviewed the team's automated suites, tested API coverage in Postman, and wrote and executed test cases.
Tested enterprise CMS implementations across Optimizely and Umbraco, responsive web builds, and native mobile applications, shaped reliability strategy for AI chatbot features, and built internal AI tools for test matrices and test management.

Owned compliance reporting for insurance partners through a carrier transition undertaken to secure more sustainable future rates.
Documented operational and business process workflows across an organization that had never had them written down.
Validated business logic and ratings requirements for a new insurance product. Verified that backend systems received correct data as costs moved to the new carrier.

Designed the UX for the Wells Fargo Works small-business grant application as part of the project team, a redesign the client chose over the prior year's version.
Tested and troubleshot Contentful CMS implementations across client properties, partnering with developers to trace content and template issues to their source.
Served as the workflow gate across concurrent client projects at a digital content agency, advising project managers on whether work moved forward, returned for revision, or went to the client.
Quality Assurance Analyst
The Mx Group

Sep. 2014 – Oct. 2016
Built automated UI test coverage using Protractor on Selenium WebDriver, starting with no prior software background and producing working suites within six months.
Tested native mobile applications alongside complex responsive web builds across agency client projects.
Worked full-lifecycle digital projects in Agile and Scrum teams at one of the nation's largest private B2B agencies, using SQL for data validation and root-cause defect analysis.
Managed branching deployments, made commits and submitted pull requests for automated tests, working directly alongside developers inside the project team.
A twenty-year-old consulting firm had never had a quality function - no test cases, no process, no methodology. I was hired as its first quality analyst and spent six years building the department: defining what a test case was, selecting automation tooling by project type, restructuring sprint cadence so quality wasn't last in line, and staffing a team across Chicago and Latin America. I productized it into a service the firm sold to clients. By the time I left it was one of the highest-margin teams in the company, and two analysts I'd developed had moved into senior roles.
The hardest part was never the testing. It was getting a company that had gone twenty years without the function to value the discipline, and you don't win that with a process document. I learned to sell the work before building it, to frame quality as something that made other people's jobs easier rather than a gate in front of them. Every version of that job, internal or client-facing, came down to the same thing. I've stopped believing a good idea carries itself.
Running an AI-assisted site build as the PM
I wanted a real site, not a template, hosted on my own terms, light enough to load fast, structured so AI search could actually read it, accessible, and editable without a deployment. It also had to be repeatable on free tiers, because the next one is for a community group with no budget. I wrote those constraints first, had AI evaluate options against them, and chose Astro and Sanity - an editor that ships raw HTML costs far less bandwidth than a full CMS. The design, the content model, the branching strategy, and every commit were mine. AI wrote the code. I ran the project.
The build was the easy part. The hard part was deciding what the thing had to do before I let anything get made - free tiers, no deploy to publish, light enough to load anywhere, readable by AI search. Once those were written down, the stack chose itself and I could tell whether what AI produced was right. Handing a model a vague ask gets you a vague result, which is the same problem I spent twelve years catching downstream.
Building a senior team without being allowed to hire one
I was never allowed to hire anyone at my level. Budget capped one at entry-level and the other at standard QA; so I got someone from manufacturing QA with no software experience and a game tester who'd never touched a web app, training both while shipping the MVP of our largest client project. Later hires came via an offshore acquisition, and I mentored our first automation engineer on strategy: what was worth automating and why. One made senior in a year, then lead; another made senior. Two earned ISTQB certification, and we were the first team in the company to integrate Chicago and LATAM.
I wanted a peer and never got one. It turned out to be the most useful constraint I've had - if nobody arrives senior, you have to build the thing that makes people senior: training material, a clear bar, and enough of your own time to actually spend on it. I learned to manage because there was no other way to get the team I needed. The promotions still mean more to me than anything I shipped.
